Sentinel Site for Obesity Prevention Report 5: Obesogenic Environments

The Sentinel Site for Obesity Prevention series of reports contain the baseline findings from the three large community-based obesity prevention demonstration projects conducted in the Barwon South-West region of Victoria: Romp & Chomp (Geelong, 0 to 5 year old children), Be Active Eat Well (Colac, 4 to 12 year olds) and It's Your Move (East Geelong / Bellarine, 12 to 18 year olds).

Report 5 describes the home, settings and neighbourhood environments for early childhood, primary school and secondary school students in relation to nutrition and physical activity and how ‘obesogenic' (obesity-promoting or producing) the environments are.

This report contains the information collected from the Early Childhood Settings Audit (kindergarten/preschool, long day care centres and family day care providers) and the Primary/Secondary School Environmental Audits. These audits were completed by directors, carers, teachers, canteen managers and principals. Additional information examining the home and neighbourhood environment was collected from the Parent Computer Assisted Telephone Interview (primary school) and Adolescent Knowledge, Attitude and Behavioural Survey (secondary school).
